Author: Meredith R. Cook
Reviews:
"Meredith Cook has a unique, lyrical voice. She sounds like angels content to sing on earth."
– Diane Glancy, visiting Richard Thomas Chair, Kenyon College, author of Asylum in the Grasslands, Pushing the Bear and Stone Heart
"Meredith Cook's poems crackle with originality and her language sings. Her mastery of form is delightful."
– Doris Stengel, president, National Federation of State Poetry Societies
"Meredith R. Cook's poetry never fails to touch, amaze, and delight. Her poems splash with the playful, ride the rhythmic tides of lyrical, and even slap the shore of the surreal. After reading and listening to her work, one is pleased and satisfied, but also left to ponder at what fantastic ways she may use words next."
– Charmaine Pappas Donovan, president, League of Minnesota Poets
"Athletes in training strive for strength, flexibility, and endurance. Meredith Cook's poetry is athletic—and graceful, and smart. I have been in awe of her talent since the first time I heard her recite her work. In this book, perhaps her poems in all their variety, passion, and skill will reach the wider audience she has deserved for so long."
– John Calvin Rezmerski, poet laureate of the League of Minnesota Poets
About the Author: Meredith R. Cook started writing poetry while in school in Blue Earth, Minnesota, graduating in 1974 at the age of sixteen. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1977 with a major in English with emphasis on writing and minors in history and library science. That same year she won the Lyric magazine's Collegiate Poetry Contest. Meredith continued to write during the twenty-four years she worked as interlibrary loan and reference librarian in Blue Earth. In 1982 she joined the League of Minnesota Poets; in 1990, after having poems accepted by two previous editors, she became editor of The Moccasin, the League of Minnesota Poets' literary journal, a position she has held ever since. Meredith has won many prizes in national and state poetry contests for over twenty years. Word Flight is her first book.
**Word Flight contains a CD of Meredith reading a selection of poems from the book.
