Half a Loaf: Johnny Bread Recipes to Nourish the Body and Soul
Author: Elizabeth A. Stoltz
Introduction by: Jon Hassler
Photographer: Catherine R.D. Wallace
From the introduction: "There is something here for every meal—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—as well as a number of delicious desserts, like chocolate chip cookies and raspberry torte. Then there are sections devoted to dorm-room snacks (including kitchen counter pizza and peanut butter Johnny bars) and specialty breaks like biscotti and bruschetta. And scattered throughout the book, you will find amusing reminiscences of Johnny bread from about twenty alumni, some my contemporaries, and other more recent graduates."
About the Author: Elizabeth Stoltz has been a teacher most of her life. With degrees in English literature and the Western Classics, she taught at the College of St. Benedict for twenty years and directed the college's Writing Center. She enjoyed leading students on semesters abroad in Greece and Rome, Ireland, and Australia, bringing home great recipes, olive oil, chocolate, and any other foodstuffs that passed inspection. (Irish whole wheat flour is incredible stuff!) Retired, she plans to use all the cookbooks that fill her shelves. She lives with her husband, Dave Hutcheson, in their new home in North St. Paul.
